The Assertive 'No'

Many of us will have had work delegated to us at work, in a disrespectful fashion – it rarely feels motivating. So what is it that prevents us from assertively challenging this request? What is our fear of saying "no"?

In this session, we clarify the assertive stance – objective, logical, unemotional – and compare it to our existing behaviours. We define a preferred set of outcomes and behaviours, and set a path towards this.

Benefits to you:

  • Dedicate yourself to notice saying no moments and applying these skills
  • Take responsibility for controlling others’ requests of you
  • Say what you want, confidently and assertively
  • Change your style and get instant results that make your life better

For most people, the greatest fear of saying no is that we upset a good relationship. In this session, learners will learn how to maintain a clear, assertive stance whilst maintaining that relationship.

This interactive session will help you by :

  • Understanding the difference between assertive, passive and aggressive
  • Recognising personal habits and 'default' styles
  • Selecting and adopting the right tone, language and physical stance for saying "No"
  • Planning and rehearsing saying "No" while maintaining relationships with colleagues and clients
