Business Learning - Methods & Approach

Simulation

“This is your Captain speaking, today we will be cruising at 32,000 feet over mountains and oceans. I’ve never actually flown before, but I’ve read a lot of books about it, so here goes!”

Of course this scenario is unthinkable in the real world, so why let theorists fly your business? Our simulations draw from 35 years’ experience of developing managers and leaders across all industry sectors, to bring a truly challenging realism to simulated business challenges. We have looked long and hard at existing Management Development Programmes, in our own market and within the business school setting. What has become clear is that, at times, they are a million miles away from testing the actual aptitude of managers to cope with modern commercial or public service pressures.

If you are a manager reading this ask yourself, “when is the last time I went into work and was able to 'do performance management', 'do finance' or 'do strategy'?" Most of us have to merge all these subjects and more into the busy working day, and stay professional, motivated, clear-thinking and innovative. Classrooms and textbooks can not begin to get close to that reality.

We have a raft of scenarios for an 'off the peg' experience and, wherever possible, our consultant team will tailor a story around your specific needs, challenges and circumstances. We have run activities in automotive manufacturing, banking, public service, ITC and FMCG to name a few. Whilst the behaviours tested tend to be similar, the reality of the setting helps us significantly increase the poignancy and value of the experience.

We have a tried and tested method for developing these scenarios so we can move from concept to delivery in quick time.

Case Study
A world-wide leader in IT networking recently commissioned us to design and deliver a sales training programme with guaranteed results. The challenge was to develop over 100 graduate sales associates, and ensure that they were 'field ready' as quickly as possible.

We developed a comprehensive business simulation, consisting of a realistic sales life cycle and an actual range of buying customers of varying budgets. We gave learners the opportunity to qualify sales opportunities and recognise appropriate solutions with the added complexity of dealing with internal politics, including a demanding Sales Manager.

We were able to give the learners the opportunity to test their understanding and apply the learning without any real risk, whilst still experiencing the pulse-rate increases that come from being client-facing. The result: a group of graduates, confident in their ability to sell and handle objections and achieving previously unattainable targets within three months.
