About the Project Management Skills Model © (PMSM)

Project Management models are nothing new and there are plenty to chose from (30 at last count). The overriding aim of our model is to present a straight-forward scheme to help you decide where limited development will have greatest impact.

All too often we are invited into an organisation to "fix" project problems simply by training those who have fallen into the role of Project Manager. This can work but often results in feedback like: "Really good training but my Manager doesn't do any of this stuff" and "How can I make these skills work if no-one else I work with understands them?"

By working with us, applying the model we can focus on where "quick wins" can be achieved whilst building a longer-term infrastructure that, within 2 to 3 years should limit the need for extensive external training. Make sure, if you are raising the skills and expectations of Project Managers, that they will have the support above and around them to make the most of the training received.

In addition, it is understandable in cash-strapped times, to focus on technical skills. However, we must all have experienced highly task-focused Project Managers who have failed to gain the support of teams and suppliers. Don't let the great be the hostage of the good, make sure you also invest in making your Project Managers confident inter-personal operators.

All Matchett Project Management training is aligned with the APM Body of Knowledge, externally verified by the APM and can easily be converted into formal, internationally recognised qualifications.

"The purpose of the model is to help organisations implement strategy through successful and consistent, delivery of projects. -no matter what the industry..."
