Portfolio Management & Governance

At this stage we are looking at business leadership. Organisations displaying a high degree of project maturity are lead by professionals who understand the importance of universally applied protocols with clear governance infrastructure all the way through the company. They will lead on initiatives for improvement and ensure that decisions made at a Programme and Project level are carried out with diligence and total alignment with the organisation's portfolio direction.

As with our Business Analysts model, at this level, the technical knowledge covered in previous levels is taken as read. Here we concentrate on business strategy, the role of the senior manager in ensuring sound governance and an honest and ongoing appraisal of how resources are used and decisions made. Leaders are encouraged to think creatively about how to survive in an increasingly complex and fast-moving environment and how to configure work teams around tackling the most important issues in the most effective ways.

This may lead to fundamental re-structure and closer collaborative working with other organisations, learning from other organisations and industries and the unflinching application of consistent leadership skills.
