Matchett Broadens Horizons with Sale of Majority Ownership to CLT - December 2007

World-leading business skills and learning technology solutions provider, Matchett, has sold 80% of its ownership to the CLT Group, the major specialist and market-leading professional training provider.

With Matchett having experienced unprecedented success and growth in the past five years, the acquisition of the majority stake in Matchett by the CLT Group provides the Banbury-based company with an excellent opportunity to take the organisation to the next level and dramatically extends its resource base.

It will provide significant benefits for clients of both Matchett & CLT.

CLT offers a natural fit with both the market place and products of Matchett, thus allowing the company to exploit direct synergies between the two companies.

Matchett will continue to operate as a brand and deliver its renowned training and development solutions and learning technologies for the business and financial sectors.

Managing director, Alastair Matchett, who retains an equity interest in Matchett, will help lead its development within the CLT Group and externally in the marketplace, along with the Matchett executive team, who will remain at the company.

The CLT Group (CLT) is a major specialist and market-leading provider of professional training for legal, corporate, financial, accountancy, regulatory, property, human resource and other professional sectors in both the UK and internationally.

CLT is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Wilmington Group plc, one of the UK's leading providers of information and training for professional business markets. The Group provides training, arranges industry events and publishes magazines, directories, databases and special reports focused primarily on its two principal sectors of Legal & Regulatory, and Business Information which comprises Healthcare and Media businesses.

Wilmington has a great track-record in helping companies to grow.

Managing director, Alastair Matchett, who founded the company five years ago, said the purchase by CLT was great news for Matchett and its clients.

He said: “This is very good news. The acquisition gives Matchett access to a raft of new expertise, resources and solutions. In the fullness of time we will provide our clients with even better access to more training and professional development and solutions, enhancing the ‘Matchett experience’.
