Matchett Helps WRAP’s Trainers ‘Train, Facilitate and Present’ - December 2008

Matchett is proud to have worked with WRAP over the last four years on various training and development projects. WRAP (Waste and Resource Action Programme) helps individuals, businesses and local authorities to reduce waste and recycle more, making better use of resources and helping to tackle climate change.

They have set ambitious targets for the next three years. To achieve this, they are setting fewer, but sharper targets in their new business plan – on landfill diversion, carbon reduction and economic impact – and ensuring that behaviour change is at the heart of everything they do.

WRAP is building a team dedicated to delivering its vision. To support their internal trainers’ development needs and those of staff facilitating and presenting at external meetings and events, WRAP asked Matchett to design a bespoke ‘Train, Facilitate and Present’ course. Building on their existing skills and reinforcing best practice, this programme is helping them to develop powerful and effective communication skills for engaging, persuading and influencing their delegates.

Matchett have designed a modular approach comprising of two training days to run consecutively and one re-enforcement day with a gap of six weeks in-between, making three development days in total. This approach enables delegates to practice skills gained on days one and two and subsequently re-assess their approach, impact, successes and barriers on day three. The returning participants have benefited WRAP by:

  • planning, preparing and delivering training sessions with confident professionalism;
  • deciding, from a range of methods, which will best meet the needs of the trainees;
  • adopting appropriate tactics to cope with a wide range of backgrounds, abilities and personalities;
  • designing and running enjoyable and stimulating sessions that achieve their learning objectives.
  • building their confidence and presence as a trainer;
  • widening their range of training techniques to include the addressing of attitudes and beliefs, as well as skills;
  • managing the dynamics of a training group within the training organisation;
  • dealing with demanding and difficult training situations;
  • developing ways of ensuring the effectiveness of their training in contributing to organisational goals.

This on-going successful programme is one step in supporting WRAP’s people in their important work.

Whether you represent local government, business, or the third sector, you can work with WRAP – or benefit from their advice and support – so that collectively we can divert more waste from landfill, bring positive impacts to the recycling sector and the wider economy, and further reduce the UK’s carbon emissions.
