High performance is no longer an option in today’s business arena. Change is rapid and we need an approach which enables us to respond to increasing demands for high performance and at the same time look after our most precious resource – the people in our organisations.
Through coaching we can enable teams and individuals to be as creative, skilled and internally motivated to achieve results as possible. This course enables managers to learn and practice essential coaching skills and through targeted coaching course follow up, allows them to enhance their own performance and fully connect with the power of coaching.
At the conclusion of the course the participants will benefit your organisation by:
- Helping the people in their teams to achieve more and contribute more
- Energising and connecting people to business goals in a powerful way
- Managing the performance and developing the skills of others through coaching
- Developing their own management and leadership competencies through coaching
- Inspiring excellence, fostering potential
- Developing a coaching culture
Session Overview
- Introductory activity: The business case for coaching and impact on results and definitions and benefits of coaching
- Leadership and coaching: We consider where coaching sits in the framework of management approaches and look at how coaching works. What is it that makes people perform more effectively? Participants are introduced to the essential coaching skills and diagnose their current competency level
- The coaching framework and foundations: We use a simple framework for the coaching process which will help us to move our teams forward to achieve the necessary goals and outcomes for our business. We begin the process by understanding the critical business issues and identify the essential competencies we need people to develop to meet these goals. We identify the performance gaps and set performance goals for our teams. We then relate this to how individuals within our teams are performing
- Essential skills: During the next coaching phase we focus on the tools and techniques we can employ to help the individuals within our teams align and perform to performance targets. We complete a series of engaging and practical exercises using some of the tools and give and receive feedback on their use
- Practical work: Participants work in small co-coaching groups with peer and tutor feedback to practice a full coaching session. We identify when and how insight can be reached for the coachee and work practically with barriers to learning
We summarise the learning from the day and produce a next steps action plan for development of coaching skills.
