The Sky’s the Limit

You have until close of play to carry out a series of projects for your customer. Each will be awarded points, and if you earn enough you will be allowed to launch the ‘Mean Machine’ rocket you will have built. This will act as a fitting metaphor for your team’s launch to a higher level of performance.

This event is designed to take you and your team out of your comfort zone without getting cold or wet (unless you really want to!). The challenges we set you are designed around the number of people in your team, the location and the time available. They range from the mental challenge of solving a murder case through to making a sculpture, catching a fish, breaking records and baking team cakes.

By the end of this event, you will:

• Appreciate different styles of team working and the relative strengths of each approach
• Gain a greater understanding of your preferred style of working and the impact you have on other team members
• Develop ideas and plans for helping the team to achieve its full potential
• Be able to analyse how your communication styles are helping or hindering your ability to work as a team
• Know how you manage conflict and change under pressure
• Create personal learning plans for improving yourself and your team

The customer will be the one you deserve, so you will get one who co-operates with you if you treat him/her right, or you may get one who is the customer from hell if you mess up the relationship! It’s all down to you…

How well do people communicate? Who emerges as the leader, and through what process? How are tasks allocated? What happens to the unpopular tasks? How well does the team ascertain what people can offer to help? Where are the conflicts? How are they resolved?

As you can imagine, the activity puts your team under a microscope, providing large quantities of performance data to review and reflect on.

As ever, our observer/facilitators are there as resources and to help you to draw out the learning.
